The article is talking about the pollution of the Don River in Toronto. And the main problem is the wasteing by animal and irrigating. However, there are some suggestion that can decrease the pollution in Don River. In the first place, the government should publish some rules about saving water and using water. Meanwhile, citizens should have a good responsible for that. People cannot just focus on their own thing, but also need to care the place where they live.

when I read the atricle, I feel sad when I read the history of the Don.

Until 1969,people hold a funeral to the Don.
They want to reminder all Canadian to prevent the environment.
People use their strive to let Phosphorus levels in the Don have fallen by 66 percent over the past 30 years.
They purify the agricultural sewage, industrial effluent, sewage,to let river clean.
They also make metals go for recycling,After a decades-long campaign,the river have changed,it become clean and purity.
They change water that makes no unpleasant odor, dirt is gone.
I feel little ease when I read that All citizens have the awareness to protect rivers.
In conclude,we should each do to protect the environment we live in homes.

This article states the pollution of the Don River in Toronto nowadays. And the key problem includes Phosphorus, an algae-boosting component of fertilizers and animal waste. Although the situation is serious, we still can do something to reduce the pollution of the Don River. Firstly, the government can make the anti-pollution laws to prohibit the disposal of any refuse matter from into Don River. In addition, growing public awareness and concern for controlling water pollution is of vital significance. Lastly, since the Don has been polluted already, it should be treated effectively by the government so that citizens can get fun from the Don River again.

ReplyDeleteIt mainly talks about the pollution of Don River, and people’s rescue at it. After reading this article, I deeply think that we can not take the risk of polluting our environment to build our society or improve the technology. No matter we are poor or rich, no matter the society is developed or backward, we should always protect our environment and be friendly to it, for it’s the only home that our mother planet leaves us and the shelter that will never abandon us. It’s a common problem for all the human beens that we only care about what we can get for free selfishly, but never be careful not to hurt others. I seriously caution that we should stop and change from now on.

I am really shoucked by the pollution of Don River.Although people have realized already, the pollution of Don do not change totally.While reading this article, I am thinking about Suzhou River in Shanghai. About 10 years ago, Suzhou River was polluted heavily. some environmentalists also took some actions to cause people's attention. as the result, the government began to govern the river.they have the same results. Even if the quality of rivers has improved, both of them still return to the original level.That is our consideration.The nultural environment we rely on is really important.We cannot only consider about ourselves,we need to take the next generation into consideration. We shouldwork together to protect the environment. Protecting environment is not immediate interests but long-term one.

Personally, I am not satisfied with the environment of my hometown right now. The longest river in my hometown, NANDA River, which was polluted more or less, for people there didn’t set up enough awareness to protect the environment, but also the government should do some propaganda to spread some basic knowledge of how to protect our environment, what is the most important, it could help us create a good environment-protected atmosphere. Nowadays, it is quite hard for us to develop the industries while protecting the environment at the same time. “The Death Don River” which is an impressive lesson for us ,the way of rebirthig the ecology of Don River is quite frustrating, and I don't want to see some problems like over phosphorus happening to any river, for we really don't have any funds to damage or pollute our environment .Each of us ought to take responsibility and duty to protect our only –existing environment from being damaged or polluted, just cherish and treat him like a baby .
ReplyDeleteAccording to the lecture, Don river was suffering from the pollution by cars factories and trains. Moreover, water nutrition enrichment was a very big problem before. My hometown is near the Yangtze River, it is still suffering from the pollution by boats cars trains and factories on the banks. Although the government has already done some actions to fix the environment problem, we still need much time. Same like Don River, the water nutrition enrichment is a big problem too because of the fertilizers.

After the campaign of 10 years, several Canadian rivers are nursed back to health and almost discover. Because of the pollution, there are so many environmental problems suffering local people. The Don river has experienced death and rebirth, which required a long process and it cost a lot, not only the funds, but also worn down much manpower ..With the rapid economical development, china is facing more serious environmental problems, the heavy industrial pollution in the industrial cities, domestic pollutions everywhere. Our laws and regulations on environment should be reformed, for there are so many industrial companies ignore the pollution and they only need to pay little forfeit money. And I think what we need now is to arouse public environmental consciousness. Have all people join in .

if human want economic development then pollution will occur for sure.some of the damage to the environment that can be restore,some can not.that's what happening around the whole world.the example of Don river is a sad one,but not a tragedy.because compare to the whole earth,don river is just a small part.so the tragedy that are happening today is the pollution around the whloe world which may cause a damage to not only the residence near Don river but the whole human beings.the lead of the government to people would be a vital action to prevent the globol tragedy. for instance ,government should promote some kind of encourage laws which can give people benifits of they do someting that can reduce or stop pollution .because pollution is mostly caused by selfish of humen.but selfish can never be solved if the government just say "you shouldn't be selfish!that's immoral."that's useless .

The article illustrates that the Don River has been polluted very seriously. It’s caused by multi reasons. It’s difficult to save the water. After the pollution, human’s lives are quite affected by it. The quality of water becomes very poor. I used to live in Dalian. Dalian used to be beautiful and clean. It’s a city near the ocean. Last year, the oil got into the sea near Dalian by an accident. The ocean had been polluted very badly. We can see the oil on the water, it’s never clear any more. Lots of sea animals died, and lots of people got sick because they ate the polluted seafood. It’s same as the pollution in the Don River. Not only the environment is polluted, our health cannot get the insurance. Therefore the environment near us is really significant to our lives.

ReplyDeleteRay Ford's article "Death and rebirth on the Don River" with photography by Lorne Bridgman,shows us the Don River'some process of pollution and people's efforts to save the Don River.I really shocked by these words and the pictures,such a beautiful river can become so dirty,and the role of this thing is the result of human beings.
On one side,people always put their waste discharged into river.Some people think it doesn't matter,but as people all know,the waste water include many harmful elements,such as phosphorus,it can algae grow extremely fast.Just due to those people's ideas cause them pay litte attention on the river's protection,and the river become more and more dirty.
On the other side,except the garbage of our daily life,the waste which produced by all kinds of factories can effect negatively to most extent.For instants,the plastic pollution will flow on the river,which can reduce the contet of oxygen in the river.In this case,the nember of fish will decline,even some rare kinds of fish are going to extinct by the terrible life conditions.So it should be noted on these problems,and sovle them as soon as possible.
All in all,water is the source of life,all the lives on the earth can not live without clean water.No matter for what reasons,people have to stop their behaves of contaminated river,and take actions to protect the river.Actions speak louder the words,so let's get start!
After reading this disclourse, I feel so sorry about the "death" of Don river initially, but finally I feel extremely happy for its rebirth. From the article , I know the Don river was threatened by the waste from the industries and the residence before 1969. Although some people tried to save the river during this period, they all failed, and Don river was dying. Luckily, the people found out this problem after the funeral, and began to save the river. Don river has changed by now, and becomes heathy. The experience of Don river reminds me of the river in China. The condition of river in China is similar to the Don river before 1969. The goverenment might save the rivers after the deverlopment of economy, but I do not know whether the rivers have enough luck to be cured in the future. Therefore, I advocate that we should take actions to save our environment.

The previous article is talking about the environment issue about the Don River in Toronto that has been conflicted with human development in society. When people decide to achieve the proper purpose for developing production and bringing out prosperous economy and sacrifice the natural environment at the same time, there is definitely a serious price needs to pay after all. Even though the water pollution in Don River is such a tragic consequence, it gives people a realistic figure to think out deeply in order to prevent the similar situation in the future. I think modern society shouldn’t need to pay such huge prize for the uneven development between natural environment and human demands in daily lives. For example, my hometown Nanjing is famous for the tourism especially near Fuzi Temple. There is a river right cross the place of interest which is full of stagnant water. In order to achieve the win-win situation, the government transforms surrounding river course into souvenir shops and uses water lock to control the currents. Then, it actually becomes interesting scenery based on traveling around with a light boat. Because of these action, government don’t need to spend a lot of money on fulfill the stagnant river or realign the waterways. The Eastern Lake, which Wuhan is famous for, was clean and extensive in the old days. However, it suffered a lot from pollution these years, and can hardly be rescued, even though the government has taken a lot of measures. I do think that we should come up with some good solutions that can both improve the economic standard and help protect the environment. If we don't stop polluting, we will suffer the consequence of our action.

Everyone should have responsible for the world, especially for the environment. For example, my hometown shenyang is located in north of China. ReplyDeleteI agree with what Linda worries about. We have to control the water pollution right now. As she said, water is important in our life. Without it, we cannot live for one day. After some chemical elements are released to the river by the factory, the water cannot be completely percolated. So after we drink this water for a long time, the chemical element will stay in our body. It will cause serious medical problems, like hypothermia or blindness. So we have to do something for the protecting the environment, it is for ourselves and the people live with us every day.

ReplyDeleteAfra and I hold the the same idea. it is true that many place of china has been polluted, especially in some developing countries, the government just put more emphasis on how to develop the industry, but concerned less about how to reduce the pollution. Although they have taken measures, it did not work. Because many people do not attach importance to pollution. Nature has super power which means that it can evolutes as the time passing. Also the river, it can cure itself slowly. However, as our human beings, we should not destroy the nature although we know that it has the super power. It is not wised for us to tame the river after we destroying it. Firstly, there is not enough awareness of environmental protection. Secondly, the government do not enough advocation to educate the public some basic knowledge to protect our environment.
